In Italy, 5,100 kilometers of coastline, equal to 95.7% of the monitored coast, has sea in the “excellent quality” class.

Another 152 kilometers - 2.8% of the total - are of "good" quality, while only 31 kilometers (0.6%) fall into the "sufficient" class and 35 kilometers (0.7%) into the "poor" class.

These are the 2025 data that emerged from the monitoring conducted every year by the National System for Environmental Protection (SNpa), composed of Ispra and Arpa/Appa, on bathing waters.

The highest percentages of "excellent" coast are found in Puglia (99.7%), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (99.6%), Sardinia (98.7%).

In absolute terms, however, the regions with the most kilometres of coastline of “excellent” quality are Sardinia (1,391 km), Puglia (880), Calabria (621).

Sicily is excluded from the report, where monitoring is carried out by the regional health system.
