Rome, landfill on fire at Ciampino: the fire near the airport

Awakening of fire in Ciampino , where a landfill not far from the airport runway caught fire this morning.

The alarm went off around 8.30, with the flames and columns of smoke starting from piles of construction waste stored inside the structure. The Fire Brigade and Civil Protection were on site to block the progress of the fire and prevent it from spreading to the fields and houses in the surrounding area. Also present were the State Police and the Police of Rome Capital.

Flights currently regular despite the dense black smoke given off by the fire. The cause of the fire is to be ascertained.
