Some were headed to Turin for this evening's 6pm match between Torino and Roma, others to Bologna for the 3pm match between Bologna and Fiorentina.

Groups of Fiorentina and Roma fans met on the motorway near Bologna and started a violent clash on the emergency lane of the A1 in Casalecchio di Reno , just outside the Emilian capital.

It happened around 12:30: about 200 people wearing hoods and masked faces got out of their cars and vans and fought each other, kicking and punching, but also using helmets, iron bars, and sticks . Some vehicles were also damaged.

The collision reportedly began at the nearby Cantagallo service station. A few minutes later, several vans and cars stopped on the highway, sparking a violent collision just steps away from the speeding cars . The first reports came from passing motorists, and the Bologna police arrived on the scene to identify those responsible.

The clash lasted only a few minutes, after which the ultras immediately left, before the police arrived . Surveillance footage is being examined. Initial investigations have revealed that the clash involved only Roma and Fiorentina fans, with no involvement from Bologna groups.
