Since he dived and disappeared into the waters of Lake Vico on Saturday afternoon, the search has continued unabated. Teams of expert divers and the most advanced technology have been deployed to locate Luigi Cavallari, the husband of Family Minister Eugenia Roccella. But so far, there is no trace of him.

Meanwhile, various haters are pouring in on social media. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni calls them "ignoble and inhumane." "There's a line that should never be crossed, and that's the respect due to human suffering," she says, adding that all of this "is also the result of a toxic climate that some have fueled for too long."

Search equipment, including remote-controlled ROVs, has been deployed, using cameras and sonar systems to thoroughly comb the area. A team of firefighters from Milan has also arrived with a special underwater drone capable of conducting even more in-depth searches. Late yesterday afternoon, a simulation using a tender was also conducted to reconstruct the movement of the boat as it was dragged by the current and pinpoint the exact spot where the 84-year-old dived and never resurfaced.

THE HATERS

And it was precisely the massive rescue operation launched Saturday afternoon after the minister's alarm that sparked hateful comments on social media. "Any woman's husband isn't newsworthy while politicians' relatives fill the news," "If he were Paola Rossi's husband, the search wouldn't have been so thorough," and "All of Italy should have been mobilized for little Domenico's heart, too; he was only two years old," are some of the posts commenting on the news of the accident. "He wanted to escape from her," wrote someone. "Could he have stayed home like us mere mortals who can't afford boat trips?" another argued. "I'm asking for a friend." And some recalled the tragedies at sea: "How many non-EU citizens have drowned in the Mediterranean? It's become a cemetery, a prayer for everyone."
