A real riot broke out in the repatriation detention center (CPR) of Ponte Galeria in Rome.

A 22-year-old originally from Guinea was found dead this morning, probably by suicide, and shortly afterwards the riots began, a protest by the guests over the conditions in which they are detained.

Some migrants attempted to break down an iron door and set fire to a car and started throwing stones at the staff.

To quell the protest, which was attended by around 60 guests of the facility, the police fired tear gas. The situation returned to normal, but two carabinieri and an Army soldier were injured. The carabinieri were treated on the spot, the soldier was taken to hospital under code yellow.
