Rigopiano: Three convictions and five acquittals in second appeal

Three convictions, five acquittals, and two statutes of limitations. Thus, after nearly eight hours of deliberation, the second appeal for the Rigopiano tragedy ends at the Perugia Court of Appeal.
Former regional officials Carlo Visca, Pierluigi Caputi, and Vincenzo Antenucci were sentenced to two years in prison. Former mayor of Farindola, Ilario Lacchetta, former municipal technician Colangeli, and three regional officials , Giovani, Belmaggio, and Primavera, were acquitted. Two statutes of limitations were imposed on former provincial officials Di Blasio and D'Incecco.
The PM's requests
On charges of multiple non-aggravated manslaughter in conjunction with negligent collapse of a building aggravated by the verification of damage, in the second appeal in Perugia, Attorney General Paolo Barlucchi requested: three years and ten months for the five Abruzzo Regional officials Carlo Giovani, Emidio Primavera, Pierluigi Caputi, Vincenzo Antenucci, and Carlo Visca, acquitted in the first and second instance in the Abruzzo trials; confirmation of the two-year and eight-month sentence for the former mayor of Farindola Ilario Lacchetta, convicted in the first and second instance; two years and eight months also for the municipal technician Enrico Colangeli, acquitted in the first instance and sentenced to two years and eight months in the second instance; and three years and four months for the two technicians from the Province of Pescara, Mauro Di Biasio and Paolo D'Incecco, sentenced to the same sentence in the first and second instance. He also requested the acquittal of the former regional official Sabatino Belmaggio, acquitted in the first and second instance in the Abruzzo trials.
The tragedy and the victims
On January 18, 2017, an avalanche devastated a resort in Rigopiano, in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, killing 29 guests and staff.
