"I don't want them to drop the complaints against me. I want to win on the pitch, not because of the absence of players. But if a politician sues a journalist knowing that what he said is true, he should pay. And pay dearly." Journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, host of Report, stated this today, arriving at the general assembly of the National Association of Magistrates (ANM).
Ranucci, the victim of an attack on October 16, emphasized the urgent need for change in the Italian judiciary : "It's important to send a message to the National Magistrates' Association (ANM), which must begin to think less like factionalists. Factions are a political vice."
The journalist then spoke of the need to strengthen citizens' trust in the justice system: "I have enormous respect and faith in the judiciary, despite having over 220 complaints against me. It would be enough to pass the law on frivolous litigation, because the current one doesn't work."
Regarding judicial reform, Ranucci expressed his opposition to the separation of careers between judges and public prosecutors: "In every country where there is separation, the prosecutor ends up under political power. We need divided powers; only in this way can the democratic machine function."
