They had violently beaten him, a punitive raid because – according to them – he was a paedophile. On the other hand, Sergio Faveto, the 51-year-old unemployed computer engineer beaten on 3 August in Piazza Unità d'Italia in the Molassana district in Genoa, had nothing to do with pedophilia, and then died of his injuries after a month and middle, on September 15th.
Today a 19-year-old young man was arrested for that attack, accused of manslaughter aggravated by futile reasons, and a minor was also reported for murder.
That evening, however, there would also be a girl and another young man to assist.
THE AGGRESSION – Faveto, on August 3, 2022, was sitting in the gardens. He was a frail and lonely man with a great desire to talk to someone. A neighbor saw him and slapped him accusing him of being a paedophile. According to the carabinieri, this was the "spark" that triggered "a veritable punitive expedition" , as the investigating judge writes. The boys, after Faveto called the Nue for the first attack taking refuge in an entrance hall, forced him out and threw him to the ground. At that point the minor kicked him in the chest. Then, when they heard sirens approaching, they ran away.
After the beating it was Faveto himself who called 112 but did not seek treatment. He told the military that one or two people punched him in the chest. "I have a heart disease - he explained - they hit me in the chest, they could have killed me" . He then returned home but on August 14th he presented himself to the hospital for some chest pains.
After a couple of days of hospitalization for some broken ribs and a cracked vertebra, he returned home but on August 22 he returned to San Martino where the doctors had found a pulmonary embolism. He had been operated on but his condition worsened until 15 September when he died.
"We are grown-ups, we beat him up", boasted the two attackers according to what emerged in the order of the investigating judge Silvia Carpanini who ordered house arrest for Daniel Borsi, of Belarusian origin but adopted by an Italian couple, 19 years old from do in a few days. It wasn't until Faveto died in September that they started to worry and deleted all the chats.
Borsi even tried to find some sort of justification and tried to convince some friends, called to the barracks as people informed of the facts, to say that the engineer had molested a little girl that evening. But the carabinieri categorically ruled out that the man was a paedophile. The attack "seems to have arisen simply from rumors concerning the victim's alleged pedophilia, which were found to be unfounded following the investigations carried out by the investigators on the victim's behalf".
