A questionnaire submitted to its employees by a company in Castelfranco Veneto , in the province of Treviso , has caused quite a stir. One question in particular sparked controversy, asking workers to indicate what criteria should be followed for layoffs in the event of a hypothetical staff reduction.

Should younger employees, those without families, or those on part-time contracts be given first? The practice, described as a simple "internal investigation" by the company itself, immediately drew criticism, especially from unions.

"This type of practice," writes the Fiom Cgil , "risks turning the workplace into a battlefield . In particular, the requirement to provide full names increases the psychological pressure on employees. Decisions of this kind must be handled seriously and with the involvement of workers' representatives."
