Due to the current weather conditions and intense sun exposure, the ice cover on Lake Braies is no longer load-bearing and there is a risk of collapse.

This is underscored by the firefighters of the autonomous province of Bolzano, who urge people not to enter the lake.

"Recently, several people have fallen through the ice and had to be rescued. Our appeal is: do not enter the lake again and respect the signs. Breaking ice can quickly become life-threatening," the firefighters say.

Yesterday afternoon, five people, including two minors, fell into the water after the ice surface collapsed. The alarm was raised around 3:00 PM, on a day marked by favorable weather that attracted numerous visitors and tourists to the area.

According to some rescuers, there were about a hundred people on the ice surface: "It's madness, there's little to smile about," was the comment.
