The statue of Pope John Paul II in Rome's Piazza dei Cinquecento, near Termini Station, was defaced. This is the same location where the demonstration in support of the pro-Palestinian cause concluded on September 26th.
The words "fascist s**t" appeared on the base of the monument, accompanied by the hammer and sickle symbol. The Carabinieri were the first to notice it, and after the demonstration, they immediately began procedures to remove the ink and restore the area's decorum.
"There are no words to condemn the desecration of the statue of Saint John Paul II at Rome's Termini station by left-wing extremists during the recent strike and demonstration. Enough with the hatred! Enough with the bad teachers," Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani commented on X.
