Just over a month after the referendum, the debate on justice reform continues to remain at the center of political controversy.
The latest storm has been caused by the words of Minister Carlo Nordio , who in an interview stated that "the drawing of lots for the members of the judiciary will eliminate a mafia-like system at the CSM . If the No vote wins, only the judiciary members who wallow in the cesspit will gain." All hell broke loose: the opposition and supporters of the No vote have risen up, with Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein calling these "extremely serious statements" and Five Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte calling them a "mudslinging machine against judges."
CSM lay councilor Ernesto Carbone instead appealed to the minister to "tone down and show respect for the magistrates and law enforcement officers who the mafia has barbarously murdered."
