The Caserta Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere has opened an investigation for manslaughter in the health sector, for now against unknown persons, to shed light on the death of 72-year-old Michele Tessitore, of Villa Literno (Caserta), which took place on February 9 last in the Covid department of the Maddaloni hospital. The prosecutor ordered an autopsy on the body to ascertain the causes of death: the examination was carried out on 17 February and the conclusions of the report will be decisive for clarifying what happened and ascertaining any responsibility on the part of the doctors who had the 72-year-old is being treated.

It was the elderly man's wife who initiated the investigation by presenting a complaint to the carabinieri of Maddaloni.

According to what the woman said, her husband's odyssey began on January 30th, Tessitore's 72nd birthday, when 118 was called; in that circumstance the doctors of the emergency room of the Aversa hospital intervene, who give an insulin injection to the 72-year-old as he is diabetic and then leave.

However, the situation does not improve and the same day the man is taken to the Moscati hospital in Aversa where, through a control swab, he discovers that he is positive.

During the night, however, a doctor calls Michele's wife and tells her to come and get her husband, as it was a diabetic peak that has been stabilized. The wife has no way of going to pick up her husband from the hospital, and so they take him home by ambulance, even making her pay for the transport of 300 euros; the 72-year-old is not given any treatment against Covid.

In a few days the situation degenerates: the man can no longer stand on his feet, he falls continuously, even from the bed, and is no longer able to control his needs. The wife in turn becomes infected and calls the hospital, the general practitioner and even the mayor to ask for her husband to be hospitalized.

Nothing to do: "This is the virus, save whoever can", a doctor would have replied. Tessitore, now dying, is hospitalized on 8 February at Covid Hospital in Maddaloni, but it is too late: he dies the next day.

"We have all been abandoned" complains his wife, who has already lost four children, the last one, aged 47, to illness. "I'll go all the way", he assures.
