The national association of former mayors "Gruppo '93" launches an appeal to the Regions, Provinces and Municipalities "not to waste the opportunities given by the PNRR resources for the growth of the education level of the population by renovating and building nurseries and schools maternal in all territories, even the smallest, where there is a presence of those age groups ".
In a long open letter, signed by about thirty former first citizens, including Massimo Zedda (Cagliari) and Nicola Sanna (Sassari), it is recalled that "the Pnrr foresees about 3 billion for the construction or renovation of services for the early childhood in addition to the 700 million already allocated by the government to this goal ".
"We believe - explain the signatories - that it would be the task of the Regions (starting with those currently less equipped with these services) to ensure that the applications of the Municipalities are transformed into funded and implemented projects. It is right that the Ministry and the Anci collaborate to avoid the risks of incongruous use of available resources ".
"According to Istat - I write the former first citizens - the system of private and public kindergartens in our country is able to accommodate only 24% of children resident in Italy from 0 to 3 years. The nursery schools in the South and in the Islands they are a mirage ".
"If in the years of the public finance crisis it was understandable (even if not acceptable) the reduction of the public offer in early childhood education services - the conclusion - now, with the NRP which provides for large allocations in this area, the renunciation of the Municipalities to strengthen this first strategic segment of education and training would be an irresponsible choice ".
