The wife of Carlo Luigi Montalbetti, the 72-year-old man who died at dawn on December 27 in his home in the Gorla district of Milan, is under formal investigation in the murder case opened by prosecutor Laura Biliotti.
This is a technical registration, as Il Giorno reports, according to which the notice of investigation was served in the last few hours on the fifty-year-old Polish woman, also for her protection as a necessary step to allow her to appoint a lawyer and a consultant ahead of the autopsy scheduled for next Monday.
The examination of the body will be crucial to establishing the cause of the elderly man's death.
Indeed, the coroner's initial examination revealed some marks on his chest, but it didn't resolve the issue. Montalbetti had a heart condition and regularly took medications and supplements, so the cause of death could also be an illness triggered by his chronic condition. On December 27th, it was the woman who alerted emergency services, but by then there was nothing more that could be done for Montalbetti.
However, police investigations revealed that five days earlier the man had called 112 during a violent argument with the woman.
He was taken to the hospital and discharged with a five-day prognosis, not for trauma or injuries but for a cough. The next day, Montalbetti went to the Villa San Giovanni police station to file a complaint for mistreatment.
He had slept in a hotel for two days, on his sister's advice, before returning home on Christmas morning. Forty-eight hours later, he died.
