Yet another attack on health workers.

The victim this time was the head of the Emergency Department of the hospital of Lamezia Terme, Rosarino Procopio, attacked yesterday evening by the relatives of a patient who was supposed to be discharged from the Short Intensive Observation department . Procopio, during the conversation with the family, was explaining that the period of clinical observation was over, the diagnostic process concluded and the lady could return home with the therapy prescribed by the health workers.

One of the three relatives who were present at the interview began to rage against the doctor, opposing his discharge. When Procopio turned to go back to his room, he hit him in the back with a truncheon that he kept hidden under a jacket.

The company security men, the police officers of the emergency room and the police officers of the Police Station who were escorting a patient intervened on the spot. The Police are still investigating the episode while the Health Authority is following the matter, guaranteeing legal protection to the health worker, while waiting to join the civil action against the perpetrator of the attack.

Condemning a premeditated attack is sadly obvious, we expect a strong response from the competent Authorities, because these phenomena damage, in addition to the health personnel, also all users". It is intolerable that someone enters a hospital with a truncheon to impose an abuse with force and violence. The Authority will do its part as always".
