Moments of fear on Saturday morning for a 38-year-old French tourist living in Switzerland and on holiday in Salento in Santa Maria al Bagno, a marina in Nardò.

A sudden gust of wind suddenly slammed the door shut on his home, leaving his one-year-old son alone in the bedroom.

The 38-year-old – who had no way of returning – then called 112 asking for help and two carabinieri intervened by forcing a bathroom window and managing to enter the home.

The operation, which lasted about half an hour, allowed the child to be rescued, who was found in tears but in good health.

The child was then entrusted to his father who thanked the police.
