A one-and-a-half-year-old boy choked to death on a piece of apple while having dinner with his parents in a home in the La Storta neighborhood, a remote suburb in the northern part of Rome. The apple fragment obstructed his airway. His family immediately called for help and an ambulance was called.

The little boy died before arriving at the hospital. The tragedy occurred on Wednesday, October 28. The child was eating when a morsel went down the wrong way, blocking his airway.

The family immediately called for help on the emergency number and rushed the child by ambulance to the Agostino Gemelli hospital. Despite the prompt response and the efforts of the doctors on board the ambulance, there was nothing that could be done for the child: he died shortly before arriving at the hospital, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The Carabinieri, who are investigating the incident, have reconstructed the circumstances of the accident. News of the tragedy has only spread in the last few hours, initially in the Tuscia region, the family's hometown. The child's father is originally from Vitorchiano, in the Viterbo province, where his grandparents live. The community has rallied around the parents, a well-known family there. Mayor Ruggero Grassotti expressed the city's sympathy to the family, describing the profound grief that has affected the entire community.
