The Parma Public Prosecutor's Office has requested a 26-year prison sentence for Chiara Petrolini , holding the 22-year-old responsible for all the crimes charged: the two premeditated murders of her two newborn children and two additional corpse suppressions .
This was the conclusion reached by Prosecutor Alfonso D'Avino, who led the prosecution along with Public Prosecutor Francesca Arienti. The Prosecutor's Office considers Petrolini to be deserving of mitigating circumstances, due to his young age and immaturity, as described in the psychiatric report, but equivalent to the aggravating ones .
The girl made a spontaneous statement in court today: "I've also been described as a murderer, as a mother who kills her children, but that's not who I am. I never wanted to harm my children."
D'Avino instead focused on listing the reasons why the defendant cannot benefit from a judgment of mitigating factors overriding aggravating ones. The prosecutor emphasized "the intrinsic gravity of the crime," then "the absolute lack of defense" of the murdered children, then "having made a decision and carried it out over the course of several months," and also "the awareness of how the second episode, a true copy of the first, would end." And again: "Having had the strength to hide the pregnancy from everyone, starting with her parents and boyfriend, having had the strength to go into the garden to bury her children, the unscrupulousness she demonstrated in dealing with the judicial authorities and with her friends. " Finally, "her conduct after the crime," when Chiara went to bars and pizzerias, and to the beautician .
