An 18-day-old newborn baby girl felt ill and couldn't breathe, turning blue. Only the timely intervention of local police officers prevented the worst. The baby was taken to the hospital and saved.

It happened yesterday around 8:00 PM in Torre Annunziata, in the Via Roma area, when officers on patrol heard a woman's screams. It was the mother of a little girl, whose daughter was struggling to breathe and was losing her natural color.

From what we understand, the officers first performed some lifesaving maneuvers and then decided to transport the baby and her mother to the emergency room of the Castellammare di Stabia hospital. At San Leonardo, again from what has been reconstructed, the baby was treated by the paramedics on duty before the situation resolved . The newborn will remain hospitalized for several days to undergo the necessary tests and to determine exactly what actually happened.

Giuseppe Raimondi, provincial general secretary of the Naples police union COISP, has also commented on the incident: "Heroes," he stated in a statement. "This is the only way to describe our colleagues who, with extreme professionalism, preparation, and composure, immediately perceived the danger, understood its nature, and perfectly executed the only maneuver needed to save the little girl's life. I extend my warmest congratulations to them, for they have once again demonstrated the importance of being present and close to citizens in times of need. They also have performed an unconventional intervention, one that falls outside of their normal institutional duties, yet nevertheless performed it in an exemplary manner and saved the newborn's life."
