For the death of the little boy, the Genoa prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for manslaughter and investigated two gynecologists and two obstetricians from the San Martino hospital in the Ligurian capital.

According to the parents, who filed a complaint through their lawyer Fabio Panariello, the staff administered the drug Angusta to induce labor "without warning her of the effects and without having her sign the informed consent." Furthermore, the caesarean section was not performed as requested by the woman and the anesthetist arrived only late at night.

In their complaint, the two parents, both 34 years old, pointed the finger in particular at the gynecologist responsible for that night, who is now among the four under investigation . "He was never present at the birth operations - the complaint reads - despite having been presented as the responsible doctor to the point of signing the discharge form". The health worker "was convicted in 2008 for the death of a newborn - after refusing to perform a caesarean section - and was convicted again in 2015 for having refused, as a conscientious objector doctor, to terminate the pregnancy of two patients".

The public prosecutor Giuseppe Longo of the Health and Labor pool, coordinated by the deputy Francesco Pinto, today gave the order for the autopsy . The examination will have to clarify whether there is a causal link between the death and the administration of the drug and the failure to resort to a caesarean section.
