New "anti-maranza" regulations in the Security Bill approved by the Council of Ministers.
The crackdown also extends the power to carry out preventive detention to local police, that is, only with the approval of the prosecutor.
The first anti-gang regulations were contained in the security decree approved on February 5th, which included several "anti-blade" measures, including a prison sentence of up to three years for anyone possessing a knife of at least 8 centimeters outside their home. The new measures against youth crime came after a group of youths attacked police officers and local police officers at the Colosseum on July 2nd, damaging their car. One of them, an 18-year-old, was subsequently expelled due to his perceived danger to society.
With the new rules, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi explained, "the so-called preventive detention regime is extended to include minors." "Individuals," the minister added, "with respect to whom, during specific police operations aimed at preventing crimes that disrupt public order in places with a significant influx of people, such as those in the so-called movida, there may be reasonable grounds to believe they may engage in conduct that endangers public safety in relation to circumstances" such as "possession of weapons or objects that in any way indicate a dangerous person."
