Nazi symbols on the Christmas tree in Montemurlo (Prato), where unknown persons hung balls with Nazi effigies and the image of Adolf Hitler with a red heart.

This was announced by the municipal administration on the institutional Facebook profile: "A serious episode has marred these days of celebration", it reads. "The values on which our Republic and our democracy were born were offended," said Mayor Simone Calamai, who alerted the Municipal Police, who immediately intervened to remove the decorations from the tree that is right in front of the Town Hall.

A gesture, continued the mayor, which “outrages all those who have died for the values of freedom and peace and who fought to give us the Constitution and freedom. This is not a stunt, I am deeply indignant. Using Hitler's images as Christmas tree decorations is an offense to our entire community, brought together in this symbol of joy and brotherhood for the holidays. The investigations by the municipal police have already begun and we will soon be able to identify those responsible ".

The town hall and the whole area are monitored by numerous cameras, so it will not be difficult to trace those responsible.

Montemurlo was a land of partisans and one of the centers of the Prato Resistance against German occupation and Nazi-fascism.
