Fear in the late afternoon in the populous Fuorigrotta neighborhood in Naples: a shot rises above the sounds of traffic and a woman suddenly collapses in a green area in the central Piazza Italia, wounded in the leg.

There are those who flee in panic, while many gather around the victim who is screaming in pain and bleeding profusely. One of those present takes off his belt and uses it as a tourniquet, to stop the bleeding for fear that the femoral artery has been compromised. Another passerby takes his car and transports the patient to the emergency room of the nearby San Paolo hospital. The prognosis is not yet known, but his life is not at risk. The State Police arrives on site.

The woman's wounding occurred near the benches of the public garden: not far away there are some rides, where children were with their parents at the time of the shot. The anguish of those present is understandable, for an episode that is currently difficult to interpret. According to the investigators' initial findings, only one bullet was fired and this would exclude the hypothesis of the 'spread', i.e. one of the intimidating raids conducted by the Camorra by shooting wildly into the air.

The victim, who is about to turn 50, has a clean criminal record: she could have been the target of the shooter, but she could also have accidentally found herself in the path of a shot intended for someone else, as in the case of an ambush between convicted felons. A 360-degree investigation is underway, including the testimonies of those present and the examination of the surveillance cameras present in the area. At the site of the wounding, beyond the blood-stained belt used to rescue the victim, a motorbike helmet: it could have been left by whoever fired the gunshot, even if for now there is not even certainty about the number of those who they would have acted.
