Mountaineers missing, search suspended: rescuers descended to the valley after two nights
Conditions still prohibitive on the Gran Sasso, the Alpine Rescue men themselves were stuck. There has been no contact with Luca Perazzini and Cristian Gualdi since SundayThe two missing climbers (Ansa)
Christmas with bated breath for the families of Luca Perazzini and Cristian Gualdi, the two hikers stranded for almost three days on the Gran Sasso .
This morning the group of Alpine Rescue technicians and workers blocked at Campo Imperatore and now engaged in the search for two days, managed to descend to the valley .
The conditions at high altitude on Gran Sasso are always prohibitive but, a brief moment of weak wind, allowed the cableway to operate. The search for the two missing will resume as soon as the weather conditions at high altitude allow it .
The alarm was raised after 7pm on Sunday 22 December, following the last request for help from one of the two hikers who slipped in the Inferno valley at an altitude of 2,700 metres . They fell immediately after starting the descent towards the Duca D'Aosta refuge, the starting point of their excursion. The rescue operations immediately proved very complicated due to the prohibitive weather conditions and were suspended, but the rescuers themselves remained blocked at Campo Imperatore for two nights until this morning, when fortunately they managed to descend .
More favorable weather conditions are expected to resume the search. Luca Perazzini and Cristian Gualdi are both from Romagna, aged 42 and 48, experts and well equipped to tackle the climb. There is no news on their conditions, the last contact dates back to Sunday .
