A ski mountaineer has died following an accident on the French side of Mont Blanc (4,806 meters). The 44-year-old man from Haute-Savoie (France) lost his life yesterday at around 12:45 on the North face of the 'roof of the Alps'. He slipped shortly after starting the descent: his fall ended in a crevasse (a crack in the glacier) 15 meters deep, after jumping over a serac (a large block of ice).

The forty-four-year-old was in the company of three friends, who raised the alarm . The rescue gendarmes of the Pghm of Chamonix (France) intervened on the spot by helicopter.
