Vincenzo Palumbo, the 53-year-old who killed two young men with a clean record in Herculaneum, is in custody, mistaking them for thieves. This is the version that the man has always given but the investigators want to see clearly.
The victims, Giuseppe Fusella and Tullio Pagliaro, were 26 and 27 years old and lived in Portici where they were also neighbors.
The double murder took place while the two friends were stopped in the car and were talking when they were shot by the driver with a legally detained weapon. The 53-year-old lives with his family in a small house in front of which the boys had parked. He explained that he had mistaken them for thieves, last September he had suffered the theft of a car, and in fact to the carabinieri - whom he called himself immediately after - he referred to two criminals.
Six bullets hit Fusella and Pagliaro in the head, most likely fired from a frontal position with respect to the car. The nose cones pierced the windshield and two reached the two victims in the head.
Investigations continue to investigate to draw a precise picture of the tragedy.
