The husband of Family Minister Eugenia Roccella is missing in Lake Vico. Luigi Cavallari was on a boat with his wife when he dived into the water. After briefly surfacing , he reportedly said he wasn't feeling well, but the boat, which wasn't anchored, drifted away , and those on board were unable to reach him in time.

The accident occurred just a few meters away from the many swimmers who had decided to spend Saturday at Lake Vico and the customers of a restaurant overlooking that spot.

Roccella is believed to have raised the alarm. Rescue operations were immediately activated. The first to arrive were the Carabinieri from the Ronciglione station and the firefighters from the Speleological-Alpine-Fluvial Unit of the Viterbo command.

The initial search was conducted by firefighter divers who jumped directly from a helicopter flown in specially from the capital. Inspections and searches will continue into the night.

Meanwhile, the minister was escorted to their home in the Viterbo area. Firefighter divers and Carabinieri units have also arrived and will continue their relentless search for the missing man. A Carabinieri helicopter is patrolling the lake. The Deputy Prefect of Viterbo, Andrea Nino Caputo, is on site to coordinate the search. Also present are the provincial commander of the Carabinieri, Alfredo Antro, and Police Commissioner Giorgio Di Munno.

Minister Roccella and her husband, Luigi Cavallari, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last March. "I met him when I was eighteen, and from that moment," the minister herself said in the past, "we never left each other."

Luigi Cavallari was a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Gabriele d'Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara.
