After several hours of fighting, the massive fire that raged at BRT's Bovisa depot in Milan last night was put out.
During the most challenging phases of the firefighting operations, several fire brigade teams were active in the area, with the Municipality of Milan urging local residents not to leave their homes and to keep their windows closed due to the column of black smoke, visible for miles, rising from the warehouse.
The unions—Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti Lombardia—are now calling for an urgent meeting with BRT management to gain a clear picture of the situation and define all necessary measures to protect the workers involved.
In a joint statement, the unions called for "full clarity on the circumstances and causes of the fire, quickly identifying all necessary measures to ensure that incidents of this gravity do not happen again."
