The eviction of the social center on Via Watteau had been postponed a hundred times, and last November the Ministry of the Interior was ordered to pay €3 million in damages to the Cabassi family, the owners of the area, precisely for the failure to clear it. The facility was deserted when the police arrived.
In recent months, the Mamme del Leoncavallo association had submitted an expression of interest to the City Council for a property on Via San Dionigi, which could represent a first step toward relocating the social center from its current location. Milan's historic "Leonka" has occupied the space on Via Watteau since 1994.
