No compensation has been received for the family of Michele Merlo, the young singer-songwriter from Rosà (Vicenza), star of the TV show Amici, who passed away in 2021, at just 28 years old, from fulminant leukemia.
The Civil Court of Vicenza ruled, rejecting the request of the young man's parents at the end of the civil trial. Merlo's family, with their lawyer Marco Dal Ben, had joined the proceedings against the family doctor, the ULSS 7 Pedemontana, and the insurance companies.
In the ruling, the judge specified that the experts had clarified that "Michele Merlo's death was not causally linked to the delay in obtaining a correct diagnosis, which, however, had only a modest impact on the clinical evolution of events."
A technical expert had concluded that the death was inevitable. Before the civil suit was filed, a settlement offer had been made by the health authority, but it was rejected by the family. The judges, however, had dismissed the criminal investigation into the 28-year-old's death.
