Now that we have emerged from the pandemic, it is time to take "the opportunity to modernize the country".

This is the message that the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella launched by inaugurating the academic year at the Bicocca University of Milan, after having participated in the closing ceremony of Youth4Climate, also in the Lombard capital.

"Universities must take up the challenge of modernity - said the Head of State -. We have come out of the acute phase of the pandemic. We are coming out of this experience, and it is time to seize the opportunity, thanks to the great resources available and reflection. that took place all over the world to modernize our country. Universities are called to make a contribution to this end ".

Therefore the hope: "The breadth of the educational offer has no limits and reaches and allows everyone the possibility of university studies, not only because our country must increase the percentage of its graduates but also because the possibility offered to all of being able to access university studies will allow our country to express talents that would otherwise remain unexpressed, with serious damage to our country and to our entire society ".

He was welcomed by the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, the rector of the Milanese university, Giovanna Iannantuoni and the prefect of Milan, Renato Saccone. It is the first time that a President of the Republic has visited the Milanese university in its young history.
