This morning, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, made a surprise visit to Niscemi, the municipality in the province of Caltanissetta hit by the landslide caused by Cyclone Harry at the end of January.

Mattarella flew over the area affected by the landslide before landing at the Niscemi heliport. The head of state was then welcomed by Mayor Massimiliano Valentino Conti, and together they toured the town center. Finally, the Quirinale announced, the President of the Republic met with the town's students and school community, including some students from classes evacuated after the landslide.

"I know it's difficult under these conditions, I understand," Mattarella said during the visit. He added, addressing the community: "Your life was here. That's why I came here, to show that the state's support remains high."
