The fire situation on Vesuvius is improving, but the measures activated in recent days will not be changed. This was assured by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, speaking to reporters at the end of the meeting of the Committee for Public Order and Safety. Currently, three fronts remain open.

The firefighting measures implemented over the past few days will not be changed "because where the fire has been extinguished, cleanup efforts must begin immediately to prevent the fire from spreading in the following hours," the prefect explained. The primary objective, he added, was to protect residential areas: this was also made possible by the construction of firebreaks.

"I take this opportunity once again to thank the hundreds of people who implemented this measure, who worked tirelessly and whom I described yesterday as true heroes," he concluded.
