Mario Calabresi is preparing to take the field for Palazzo Marino.
According to Corriere della Sera and Huffington Post, the journalist, former editor of La Stampa and Repubblica, is ready to formalize his candidacy for mayor of Milan ahead of the 2027 local elections. This decision comes after months of rumors and after Calabresi himself publicly admitted last July that he was considering the option: "I'd like to get involved for Milan. I'd like to do my part."
Calabresi has communicated to his colleagues at Chora Media his decision to step down from his roles as editorial director and chairman of the board of directors of Be Water Content, the group that includes Chora and Will Media.
Meanwhile, the process for selecting a candidate to succeed Beppe Sala remains to be determined: the center-left will have to decide whether to hold primaries or reach a shared candidacy. Among the names are Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo, former candidate for the regional presidency Pierfrancesco Majorino, and other coalition and civic figures.
Calabresi's official announcement could come soon: among the possibilities circulating is one at Milan's Festa dell'Unità on September 12th, where Calabresi will be a guest.
