There were moments of fear this morning at Terminal 1 of Milan's Malpensa Airport, where a man went berserk and started a fire, setting fire to a garbage bin . The flames, so high, caused great alarm among passengers in the check-in area.
The man then grabbed a hammer and began smashing the check-in screens . The agitated man was stopped by security personnel from SEA, the company that manages the airport, and arrested by Polaria.
Meanwhile, firefighters intervened and evacuated the terminal as a precaution while they secured the area. Airport operations subsequently resumed.
The man, arrested on charges of aggravated damage, is a 28-year-old originally from Mali . Until now, the 28-year-old, who has subsidiary protection, had never had any problems.
