The Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul carrying the bodies of Monica Montefalcone, a professor at the University of Genoa, her daughter Giorgia Sommacal, University of Genoa researcher Muriel Oddenino, and Federico Gualtieri, a recent graduate of the University of Genoa, landed at Malpensa Airport at 1:10 PM. The four Italian divers who died during the dramatic cave dive in the Maldives with Gianluca Benedetti, whose body was repatriated in recent days, are now dead.
The bodies will be immediately transferred to the morgue of the Gallarate hospital (Varese), the reference facility for Malpensa.
At 12 noon on Monday, Busto Arsizio Public Prosecutor Nadia Calcaterra, acting on behalf of the Rome prosecutor's office investigating manslaughter, will appoint coroner Luca Tajana of the University of Pavia's Institute of Forensic Medicine, toxicologist Cristiana Stramesi, and anesthesiologist, resuscitator, and sports and underwater medicine specialist Luciano Ditri to perform autopsies on the bodies of all five deceased divers.
All autopsies will be performed in Gallarate. Immediately after the delivery, the expert examination will begin on the body of Benedetti, the 44-year-old boat captain and the first of the missing divers to be recovered. All other autopsies will be performed in the following days. The bodies are under seizure.
