The Court of Assizes of Naples (first section, president Teresa Annunziata) has sentenced baby boss Francesco Pio Valda to life imprisonment with six months of daytime isolation for the murder of Francesco Pio Maimone, the 18-year-old pizza chef killed with a gunshot to the chest at the height of an argument in which he was not involved, which broke out over a pair of dirty shoes. The tragedy dates back to the night between March 19 and 20, 2023 and occurred among the chalets on the Naples seafront.
Valda, at only 21 years old, is considered by the DDA to be at the top of the criminal group of the same name in the Barra district of Naples: ten days ago he was sentenced to 15 years and 4 months for mafia association.
The sentence was greeted with shouts of joy and tears from the victim's parents. The judges also sentenced Alessandra Clemente, Valda's cousin, to two and a half years, Salvatore Mancini to four years, Giuseppina Niglio, Valda's grandmother, to four and a half years, Pasquale Saiz to four years.
The story
The crime occurred on the night of March 20, 2023, Maimone had nothing to do with it. Valda argued with a group of boys over a drink spilled on her Louis Vuitton shoe and began shooting wildly, "ignoring the presence of families with strollers and children." A shot hit Maimone, 18, straight in the heart, who died instantly.
The reactions
"I only wanted to hear one word: life imprisonment," commented Concetta Napoletano, the victim's mother, who also sent a message to the boys: "Lay down your weapons."
"Mothers can't take it anymore, we gave birth to our children and some scoundrel took them away from us." For the Maimone family's lawyer, today's ruling is "a ruling against the Camorra culture, a signal for everyone. We need to be united and strong and hope that these kids take a different path. Pio's murder was a Camorra murder, the judges have established it and this ruling also says 'kids, don't follow this path'."
"I prayed every night for justice: I thank the magistrates, lawyers and police for the investigations. We are honest people who work," said Emanuele Maimone, brother of Francesco Pio.
