A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) shortly after midnight, with its epicenter in Pizzone, a municipality in the province of Isernia . The quake, which lasted several seconds, was felt throughout the Isernia area and also in the provinces of Chieti, L'Aquila, and Caserta . Many people took to the streets out of fear . No damage or injury has been reported so far.

The earthquake's epicenter was recorded in the Pizzone area, in the province of Isernia and on the border with Abruzzo and Lazio, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

A second shock, of magnitude 2.2, was felt in the same area at 3:41 am, at a depth of 9 kilometres.
