The Carabinieri have stopped the alleged hit-and-run driver who on Friday evening in Mondragone (Caserta) hit with his car the Honda scooter driven by 16-year-old Luigi Petrella who, after falling, died at the Pineta Grande Hospital in Castel Volturno.
This is Pietro Cascarino, a 53-year-old criminal, believed to be close to the Camorra clan La Torre di Mondragone, brother of Giovanni Cascarino, a collaborator of justice. The Carabinieri of the territorial unit of Mondragone arrested him in Perugia for road homicide.
The video surveillance images and the testimonies collected by the carabinieri who intervened on the spot were crucial , when the 16-year-old had already been taken to the hospital while the driver who had hit him had disappeared. It emerged that the minor had suffered the injuries that later proved fatal, after violently hitting a lamppost, where he crashed following the collision with Cascarino's car.
The young man was returning home after an evening with friends. The tragedy shocked the entire community. When the military arrived on the scene in via Padule, there was only the scooter on the ground, while the 16-year-old had already been rushed to the hospital.
