Hundreds gathered to pay their last respects to Lorena Isceri, the 45-year-old woman from Squinzano, in Salento, killed in Florence by her ex-partner , after being beaten, kidnapped, locked in a trunk for twenty minutes and finally thrown from an A1 bridge, probably still alive.

In the Maria Regina church in Squinzano and in the churchyard, where a large screen was set up for the funeral ceremony, there were family members, friends, acquaintances, institutional representatives, and about forty mayors wearing the tricolor sash.

Standing before the white coffin, decorated with red flowers and a photo of Lorena, mother Antonietta clutched her daughter's white teddy bear, a gift she had as a child . Father Franco kissed the coffin and, at the end of the Mass, held up Lorena's photo and showed it to everyone, amid tears and applause.

On a wall in front of the church, her friends wrote a banner: "Lorena, you grew up with us. Now you walk in the light, but you will always remain here, where you are loved."

Parish priest Don Vanni Bisconti 's homily during the service was touching: "There is a world of difference between love and possession, between love and control, between love and jealousy, between love and demand, between love and the right to decide another's life," he said. "And we must say this clearly, especially to young people: if someone says no to you, that no must be respected. If someone decides not to continue a relationship, they are not taking something that belongs to you. Because the other person does not belong to us. The person we love is not our property, they are not an object we can possess."
