Valter Lavitola, who confessed to instigating the attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci in Pomezia in October 2025, remains in prison. The Rome Review Court ruled this, rejecting the defense's request. The aggravating circumstance of mafia methods was upheld for the suspect.

Meanwhile, the investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office continues, having identified alleged time gaps in communications between Lavitola and Ranucci. This finding was confirmed by analysis of the cell phones and the computer seized from the entrepreneur.

Essentially, these are suspicious deletions in chats, both before and after the attack. These findings are leading investigators, who have entrusted the investigation to the Carabinieri Investigative Units of Rome and Frascati, to further investigate.

The DDA prosecutors, coordinated by prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi, will launch further investigations into Lavitola's "financial affairs," which also involved carbon credit interests in Africa.

"We fully respect the judicial decisions, even if we absolutely disagree with them, both in fact and in law," says Sergio Cola, Lavitola's defense attorney. " We will now wait for the reasons to be filed, which will arrive within 45 days, but today we will appeal to the Supreme Court , therefore per saltum, against the preliminary investigations judge's order that rejected our request regarding the loss of effectiveness of pre-trial detention, which we believe to be fully justified."
