She had gotten married just two weeks ago. She was confined to a wheelchair. And on the night between November 2nd and 3rd, she died at the Casa dei Gelsi in Treviso, struck down by an incurable disease.
Laura Rita Careddu, originally from Bortigiadas, had lived in Treviso for years: she was 42 years old and had two young daughters, Matilda and Camilla. Her career began in the bars of Sardinia, during the summer months, and led her to become head waitress at the most renowned hotels on the peninsula.
“Il Gazzettino” reported the news.
Laura had decided to seal her union with her husband Marco Tosatto, whom she married last October 18th in Monastier, in the Treviso area. She passed away two weeks later.
Among the many who remember her is former mayor of Bortigiadas Emiliano Deiana, on his Facebook profile: "I think I know our town well. There's a silence thick with sadness in the streets, in the lanes, in the square. A sadness that permeates each of us. After Marco, Laura. A young woman torn from her loved ones, from life, from the will to live: from the love she managed to spread in a life too short. Too short. To her husband Marco, to her little girls Matilda and Camilla, to her mother Stefania, to her father Quirico, to her brother Antonio, our deepest sympathy, without exception. In blind and senseless grief."
