Landslide in Molise, investigations underway. Road and rail disruptions. Civil Defense: "It will take time."
Investigations are underway to determine how to secure the fissure, one of the largest in Europe, which has been "reactivated".Inspections are underway in Petacciato, Molise, to assess the situation regarding one of Europe's largest landslides, which has reactivated. The alert was raised yesterday by sensors placed in the area to monitor the progress of the fissure. As a precaution, a section of the A14 motorway, where the asphalt has cracked in some places, and the Bari-Pescara railway line, which has some deformed tracks, were immediately closed. Traffic disruptions occurred at the Termoli, Vasto, and Foggia stations, and long queues formed on the highway.
The Civil Protection Department convened the Operations Committee, explaining that the landslide front is 4 kilometers long and that it will take "weeks, if not months, to restore the highway and railway."
The government has been informed of the situation, while Fabio Ciciliano, head of the Civil Protection Agency, clarified that "any intervention will be evaluated after the checks are completed."
