A crowd gathered in the square in Reggio Emilia for Kate, Princess of Wales, wife of William, heir to the English throne, on her visit to Italy, her first trip since recovering from illness.

Mayor Marco Massari presented the English princess with the first Tricolour born in 1797 «for her deep commitment to childhood and for the work carried out through the Royal Foundation for Early Childhood aimed at increasing and promoting concrete actions on the importance of the first years of life in the development of a person».

Kate chose the Emilian city to explore the "Reggio Emilia Approach," the educational philosophy for children born in Italy after the Second World War thanks to Loris Malaguzzi. This philosophy places the child at the center, considering him or her as a subject with rights, bearer of strong potential, and active creator of their own learning in a context of social relations.

In Piazza Duomo, the Princess of Wales was greeted by citizens and authorities, as well as teachers and children from the city's kindergartens, amid exchanges of greetings ("Buongiorno" in Italian), selfies, and smiles.

Kate also stopped at the Malaguzzi Center, with a buffet featuring erbazzone, rice cake, fruit juice, and scented water.
