Kata, the little girl missing for three months: the trail of mistaken identity

Three months after the disappearance of Kataleya Alvarez, investigations continue for kidnapping for the purpose of extortion in the case of the 5-year-old Peruvian girl who disappeared in Florence from the former Astor hotel, occupied illegally, on the afternoon of June 10th.
Among the hypotheses being examined by the investigators is that of a possible retaliation for the housing racket in the former Astor , an affair which in August brought the little girl's maternal uncle, Abel Alvarez Vasquez, to prison, considered by the investigating judge to be among "the most dangerous" inside the occupied former hotel.
But the possibility that the little girl was kidnapped by mistake and taken to Peru is not excluded. This is why prosecutors have now made a request for a letter rogatory in the South American country.
Among the 13 people that the deputy prosecutor Luca Tescaroli and the prosecutors Christine von Borries and Giuseppe Ledda want to listen to are Kata's paternal uncle, locked up in the Lima penitentiary and another inmate, who in April 2022 lived in Florence. The uncle himself spoke of a secret he had received in prison , according to which the little girl had been kidnapped for an exchange of persons.
Whoever took her away, this is one of the hypotheses, was aiming for Kata's friend , the one who was with her on the day of her disappearance. The little girl in question is the daughter of the partner of a man with a drug record. Kataleya may have been mistaken for the latter child and kidnapped for revenge related to that drug affair.
Meanwhile, in the next few days there will be new inspections at the Astor : the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Florentine Prosecutor's Office, will carry out more invasive inspections, including excavation operations, in the building in Via Maragliano to completely exclude any trace of the little girl.
