"The Republic was born from a concerted and sincere exercise in democracy . The protagonists were the Italian people, who flocked to the polls with extraordinary participation and composure to choose the state's constitution and elect the Constituent Assembly. Women , in particular, were called to the polls for the first time in Italian history, for the local elections that year and for the June 2nd consultations." This was written by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella , in a message to the Prefects of Italy on the occasion of the anniversary of Republic Day.

«On June 2, 1946, – the President emphasizes – the vote of the Italian people marked – after twenty years of Fascism, the tragedy of war, and the struggle for Liberation – a turning point in the country's history , laying the foundations for building, on the solid foundations of the Constitution, a new civil pact, inspired by the principles of freedom, equality, and solidarity, driven by an intense thirst for peace».

"Strengthening the architecture of trust between institutions and citizens , reviving in each the most authentic sense of democratic participation, is a persistent task in the life of the Republic," adds the Head of State, underlining that "the values of the Constitution live in the actions of those who place themselves at the service of the community."

The consequences of international tensions are increasingly reverberating in the lives of citizens and communities, generating concern and uncertainty . In this context, adds the Head of State, those in public office, in the exercise of their mandates, value the ability to listen, an intelligent understanding of emerging social dynamics, and a sensitivity to situations of hardship and greater fragility, in order to develop effective responses. The future of the country depends on it. Supporting the fabric of the social fabric, identifying, together with schools and other educational agencies, the needs, demands, and expectations of the younger generations, nurturing their talents and potential, is fundamental. Dialogue, listening, and proximity are essential canons for interpreting any civic responsibility aimed at social cohesion.
