The bodies of Sergeants Simone Ruggia and Claudio Marchesi and the members of the Red Cross Military Corps, Lieutenant Franco Adriano Zecchillo and Sergeant Laura Procacci , who died last Thursday in the accident of the Italian helicopter that crashed in Bosnia during a training flight, landed at Ciampino airport .
The coffins were welcomed by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani.
THE INVESTIGATION – Meanwhile, the Rome Prosecutor's Office investigating the incident has ordered an autopsy on one of the four victims , Sergeant Laura Procacci, who died after being transferred to the hospital. The autopsy will take place today at the Tor Vergata Polyclinic.
An external examination in Bosnia has already been carried out on the other three deceased soldiers, which revealed that their deaths were due to a violent crushing.
The bodies will be transferred to Celio Hill to await the funeral. A state funeral is scheduled for tomorrow at the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome.
The Piazzale Clodio prosecutor, Francesco Saverio Musolino, is proceeding against unknown persons for negligent disaster, manslaughter, and bodily harm. The city's investigators have already interviewed the three pilots and the survivors, through the police dispatched to the scene, but it is possible they will be interviewed again as soon as conditions permit.
Currently, the most likely theory is aircraft failure, but further answers on this matter will be provided by a technical report that will be ordered. The Military Prosecutor's Office is also investigating last week's incident, pursuing a case of negligent loss of an aircraft.
