The Court of Appeal of Rome has set the sentence for the former mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno at 1 year and 10 months, for the accusations of trafficking in illicit influences and illicit financing in one of the strands of the Mondo di Mezzo investigation.
The second degree judges had been called to recalculate the sentence after last July the Supreme Court had acquitted Alemanno of the corruption charge, however, postponing the documents to Piazzale Clodio to recalculate the sentence in reference to the matter of the release of Eur Spa payments.
For his part, the former mayor of the capital commented: "After the evident downsizing of the fact following the sentence of the Supreme Court, the bitterness remains for a conviction that in my opinion is not justified because I continue to proclaim myself innocent".
"I believe - added Alemanno - that the fact of soliciting the payments of credits owed for some time by the public administration cannot be something that is disputed to me. Therefore, the bitterness remains even if the downsizing of this whole affair is extremely important. - he concludes - to read the reasons before appealing to the Supreme Court ".
