Thanks to new and specific bilateral agreements, the identity cards of Italian citizens may be valid for travel abroad also to some non-EU countries.
This is what the government's latest measures on citizenship envisage.
The green light was also given to the bill connected to the 2025 budget with a strengthening of security measures related to the issuing of passports: they will be equipped with a microprocessor with biometric data, including a photograph and fingerprints.
As is already the case, however, citizens will still have to continue to renew their passport after it expires.
